QualificationsRita Wormwood, MOT, OTR/L, conducts a private Occupational Therapy (O.T.) practice at the Healing Gate in the University area of Albuquerque, NM. She has been working in the field since 1990 and has extensive clinical, hospital, school and home-based experience. Today she provides individual and group therapy for adults and children in a small, intimate setting. Rita enjoys both a technical and creative approach to her work with children and adults. She has worked with children with a variety of disabilities such as Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, developmental delays, Down Syndrome, sensory integration issues and other disorders. (See Children's Therapy for more details.) Rita’s therapy with adults includes, but is not limited to issues such as chronic pain management, sports/work related injuries and neuromuscular problems. She has provided O.T. services to adults with diagnoses such as cerebral vascular accidents (CVA), spinal cord injured (SCI), traumatic brain injured (TBI) and other neurological/orthopedic problems. Rita holds a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University where her emphasis of study and research focused on children with sensory Integration issues. From 1983-1988, she was a licensed Natural Therapeutic Specialist (NTS). She presently uses a blend of manual therapy techniques in her practice, such as Strain and Counterstrain, triggerpoint/massage therapy and CranioSacral therapies.
